Welcome back to another week of Music For Your Monday! Every week we take a look at a list of 5 songs for the week, covering new tracks, oddball tunes, and the good old classics.
This week we are walking the wire on our trip to Zimbabwe in order to get a little Vaccine in all of us. What does any of that mean? Keep on reading to find out!
Walk The Wire – Boy & Bear
The lead single off of this Australian’s band third LP Limit of Love (Due out this Friday), this song sees the band take a more synth feel than their previous efforts. The song takes what didn’t work as well as it could have on Harlequin Dream and improves on it by turning it into a foot tapping tune. It also has claim to one of the best music videos I have seen in a long time, as a parody of music videos and how everything goes horribly wrong during the production of it.
Perfect For – Open Highway Cruising
Zimbabwe – New Navy
This track from the one and done album band was off one of their first EP’s and this track shows what the band is capable of. A catchy as hell tune, the song wants us to think of something else while stuck in the mundane doldrums that is our normal life. Why they picked Zimbabwe as that location I will probably never know. But yet it works wonders and with parts like the tribal bridge the concept and theme really fit together well.
Perfect For – Reminding yourself Summer is almost here
Whistle For The Choir – The Fratellis
Off this Scottish band’s debut album, Whistle For The Choir is arguably their most well known song outside of Chelsea Dagger and it is hard not to understand why. A relaxing song, the track slowly inserts more and more into it, all while keeping that relaxing, foot tapping tone it was aiming for. One that is easy to sing along to, this track has slowly made it’s way into pop culture thanks to appearances on Community and Brothers & Sisters.
Perfect For – A walk in the city on a sunny day
Let’s Go To The Mall – Robin Sparkles
Only in here because I can do what I want as writer of these lists, this track came to us thanks to the US sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which for 206 episodes, was a hilarious sitcom (before ruining the show in a 40 minute finale) and gave us Robin Sparkles, the former Canadian pop star who is most well known for this hit about literally going to the mall. While this song shouldn’t work for a number of reasons, it annoyingly does, and the fact that it is catchy as hell is just a perfect icing on the cake.
Perfect For – Your drive to the Mall
Teenage Icon – The Vaccines
Ending us this week is this track off the English group’s second LP Come of Age. The song gets you foot tapping from the get go, with a catchy guitar hook and a frantic drum beat, but where the song shines is in its catchy lyrics. With lyrics about how the band is something more than they should be, this self deprecating song is one that is hard not to rock out to.
Perfect For – Remembering what actually happened in your teenage years.
That rounds it up for this time! Shoot us a link if you want to see your favourite song on the list, and we’ll be back next week with another 5 songs for your Monday!
